Many moods in one genre

Fierce hard bop, tender ballads, soul jazz and funky jazz with a deep groove. Few genres have this many faces. That is why jazz suits a quiet dinner as well as the moment a room lifts. Static chooses records to fit the occasion and how it unfolds.

1950s–60s

Jazz that is easy to live with

Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Sonny Rollins. Most of the jazz records still loved today were recorded in the 1950s and 60s. They feel familiar to first-time listeners, stay out of the way of conversation and hold up over a long evening.

Jazz from this era was made to be heard on LP. Static plays it on LP through 1950s JBL vintage speakers, the way it sounded when it was recorded. The original enclosures, nearly 70 years old, give a room character just by being there.
